Fondly called Boobie by his momma back then, Daniel Gibson still looks like a kid however, is a big man on the court.
He proved that again Saturday as he blew KD and company, 136-109, Friday at the T-Mobile All Star Rookie Challenge in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Gibson scored on 11 three’s on 7-12 shooting. Rudy Gay scored 22 while Jordan Farmar and Brandon Roy scored 17 apiece.
“Once he gets in the zone, once he hits two or three, he gets it going. He hit 11 tonight,” said Kevin Durant, who played at Texas like Boobie.
While Gibson launches three after three after three, he made sure Lebron could see and enjoy it. Mot of his three’s came from the left side.
“Every shot I made, I pointed to him, or I saw him doing something over there,” Gibson said. Lebron and Gibson had that wonderful chemistry dating back to last year’s run at the conference finals against the Pistons.
Kevin Durant, second overall pick from last year’s draft scored 23. Hawks Al Horford had 19 and Nets Sean Williams had 17 and 10 boards.
“I’m very happy for him. He went from a second-round pick to win an MVP in the rookie-sophomore game.”
Watching the game with Lebron at courtside were fellow all stars Kevin Garnett, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Bosh.
