All Star Saturday New Orleans 2008, Superman plus raining three’s

All Star Saturday was so mind-blowing that you wouldn’t expect Superman in Dwight Howard.

Now that is what you call F-L-Y-I-N-G!

Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic won’t be denied this time as he ran off with the Sprite Slam Dunk championship.

Garbed in blue and with a matching red cape, Dwight Howard scored 50 on his dunks and never trailed after doing an Andre Iguodala dunk-off-the-backboard version.

It was creativity, the athleticism and the playfulness of Howard that caught the fans as well as fellow players like Kobe Bryant.

“I don’t think people want to see the same old dunks,” Dwight Howard said afterward. “They want to see something else, see some spice.”

And that was what Howard did to the rest of the competition.

Not to be outdone, last year’s champion Gerald Green had his own show which he famously calls, the birthday cake!

He placed the birthday cake, together with a lighted candle on the rim while he had McCants throw the ball into him. He caught the ball in midair and before stuffing it, he blew the candle.

Now that’s really something else!

On the other hand, Deron Williams bested host team bet Chris Paul to win the Playstation Skills Challenge.

Jason Kidd, Dwyane Wade and Steve Nash rounded up the competition.

Jason Kapono of the Toronto Raptors bagged his second consecutive three point title as he tied the 22-year old record of Craig Hodges of the Chicago Bulls to win this year’s Foot Locker Three-point Shootout.

He scored 25 on his final round. Rookie Challenge MVP Daniel Gibson managed 17 while German Dirk Nowitzki had 14.

2002 and 2003 champion Peja Stojakovic competed also together with RIP Hamilton and Steve Nash.

Starting off Saturday’s festivities were Tim Duncan, The Admiral David Robinson and Becky Hammon as the Spurs claimed the Haier Shooting Stars championship against Bill Laimbeer, Swin Cash and Chauncey Billups.

Sunday we’ll have the All Star game featuring the Western Conference All Stars against the Eastern Conference All Stars. Kobe Bryant will suit up for the game however wont play that much due to an injured pinkie.

*** I am from the Philippines and tomorrow will be Monday February 18, 2008. Monday means time to work again. And since we’ll be starting work again, I dont give a damn about it! Ill finish the game and let myself be immersed in the all star fever. Sorry boss!
