Ekwe okay’s being a Filipino

Nigerian behemoth Sam Ekwe recently told that he’s willing to undergo naturalization and represent the country in future international tournaments.

I love everything here, the food, the basketball and the Filipinos. There’s no way to say no,” said the 6-9 Ekwe during the weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum at the Shakey’s Pizza UN Ave. branch in Manila.

He’s been here for three years and have led the Mediola-based Red Lions to back-to-back NCAA titles in 2006-2007.

It’s a welcome move for Mikee Romero of Harbour Centre. “…he would be the main guy in every national basketball team in the next five years,” said Romero.

Ekwe will play alongside Jayson Castro, Beau Belga, Jonathan Fernandez, Al Vergara, Jeff Chan and Boyet Bautista in defending the SEABA championship this year.
